March 2013
This month had us completing DofE training in Wick with new Bronze groups.
We also visited Edinburgh Botanic Gardens in preparation for Belize Expedition in June with Wick High School pupils. They were introduced to various field work skills and heard about the background to the relationship between RBGE and Belize, and the importance of the conservation work they will do while there.
We had the pleasure of staying at the Aigas Field Centre while delivering workshops at the Highland Outdoor Learning Festival. Great location, great people.

Italy finale…
After a great course we headed to the Dolomites for some much needed r&r and recce for future trips……we did not bank on a simple trip/fall and helicopter rescue with badly broken ankle for Irene. This was followed by repatriation home, operation and a LONG recovery in plaster with no weightbearing. Bad end to an otherwise great venture in Italy.
Golds/Italy and summer
Gold expedition went well. Good weather and a good bunch of girls completed their expedition arriving in Ullapool in record time. Now onto the final for them in August.
Italian course was a great success – teachers all entered ‘into the spirit’ of the course though the weather could
have been kinder
Nethybridge…and more DofE!
We have had a great week with Canongate Primary 7 pupils and staff at our residential experience in Nethybridge Bunkhouses. Super place to be as ever and a fantastic week of weather. Pupils co-operated well and made it a successful week! Well done to the 29 pupils there. They also all achieved their John Muir Discovery Awards at the same time, including the staff.
Now we move onto our final assessed Bronze expeditions and then Gold practice expedition, before inservice course for European teachers in Italy.
